US prosecutors enter China in search of Lucent’s stolen secrets

27 Feb 2003

US law enforcement authorities will break new ground next month when its prosecutors interview twelve Chinese citizens as potential witnesses to the stealing of US trade secrets. Eleven of the twelve interviewees are employees of telecoms equipment manufacturer Datang. The Chinese company is alleged to have received technology stolen from US vendor Lucent Technologies by two of Lucent’s Chinese former employees. US officials have stressed that they are not claiming Datang was involved in the conspiracy. It will be the first time that China has let US authorities question witnesses in the country.
