Belgacom avoids being tongue-tied despite Bellens’ appointment

12 Feb 2003

Belgacom, Belgium’s former state-owned monopoly PTO, has said it has appointed a new chief executive in the shape of Didier Bellens, the current CEO of Bertelsmann’s German television unit RTL Group. Bellens will succeed John Groossens who died unexpectedly last November. According to local paper de Standaard, Bellens’ appointment is not ‘self-explanatory’ as in bilingual Belgium, state-owned companies are obliged to appoint a Dutch-speaking CEO when the Chairman is a French speaker.
