Dolphin France denied TETRA 2 licence

7 Feb 2003

The French Minister of Industry has a denied a request from Dolphin France for an amendment to its licence to enable it to deploy advanced mobile radio network technologies. The company, an Inquam subsidiary which operates a TETRA-based mobile radio network, was hoping to be granted a ‘technology-agnostic’ concession so it could upgrade to TETRA 2 technology or CDMA PAMR; the latter forms part of the cdma2000 family. The decision, which was based on a recommendation by regulator ART leaves Dolphin France in a precarious position for the future.
