More job losses on the cards at WorldCom

3 Feb 2003

WorldCom is set to unveil a cost-cutting plan which is expected to include the loss of between 3,000 and 6,000 jobs, or 5% to 10% of its workforce. The move, which could be announced later today, comes as the company seeks to reduce operating costs by 4%. WorldCom officials claim that the bulk of the savings will be realised through the elimination of unprofitable products, a reduction in sales and administration costs and a focus on improved productivity; they have conceded, however, that some job cuts will be inevitable.
