Chunghwa Telecom buoyed by mobile and internet

Taiwan’s national PTO Chunghwa Telecom posted operating revenues of TWD14.97 billion in December 2002, a 2% rise on the previous month, largely driven strong growth from its wireless and internet & data communications services. Mobile phone customers reached 7.42 million by 31 December, a yearly rise of 19%, generating turnover of TWD5.05 billion, up from TWD4.59 billion previously. Internet & data operations reported revenue of TWD830.3 million aided by an upsurge in demand for ADSL-based services; broadband customers numbered 1.93 million by the end of 2002, equating to an 81% share of the market.
