Brazilian long-distance mirror posts profit

Intelig, the Brazilian long-distance operator has turned its first profit, reporting a net profit of BRL42 million on revenues of BRL1.04 billion in fiscal 2002. Backed by the UK’s National Grid (50%), France Télécom (25%) and Sprint (25%), Intelig was formed in January 1999. However, since late 2001 its shareholders have been keen to sell the business. According to Intelig it has been approached by five interested parties including Brasil Telecom and Global Village Telecom.
