20 Jan 2003

VoIP operator ITXC [Nasdaq: ITXC] has officially launched operations in Brazil, adding to its existing businesses in the region in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Mexico. ITXC provides carrier’s carrier services, routing calls over the internet. The company installs international telephony gateways to carrier’s switches, which are then connected to the internet and convert data to IP. The US-based company is aggressively targeting all wireline and wireless carriers in Brazil, including those currently without long-distance licences. ITXC claims to be the VoIP international long-distance leader with a 20% market share for the last three years. Of total VoIP traffic worldwide, 34% is terminated in Latin America, mainly from expatriates calling home.
