Siemens faces a legal battle to implement job cuts

16 Jan 2003

Siemens risks facing ‘hundreds of lawsuits’ if it presses ahead with 17,000 planned job cuts at its ICN division, according to Germany’s powerful trade unions. A work council representing ICN has already rejected 362 of 366 proposed mandatory cuts by the company. The majority of German workers are protected from redundancy under German labour law by their age, time spent working for the company or having young families to support.
