Japanese camera phones show a brighter future

16 Jan 2003

Japan’s domestic shipments on mobile phones rose 17% in November 2002, the first year-on-year growth in 18 months according to the Japan Electronic and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). The introduction of a new wave of advanced camera phones has been cited as the cause for the turnaround in fortunes, with market leader NTT DoCoMo signing up more than five million camera phone users since launching the range last June.
