Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone to go Dutch?

10 Jan 2003

Deutsche Telekom (DT) and Vodafone are remaining tight-lipped over a recent Dutch press report linking them with the possible acquisition of mmO2’s underperforming mobile subsidiary, O2 Netherlands. According to the financial news daily FEM De Dag, both companies are currently auditing O2’s accounts with a view to possibly tabling a bid. The article, published on the paper’s website, maintains that the unit – the fourth largest operator in the country – is too small to survive as an independent, but could command an asking price of up to EUR200 million. Vodafone declined to comment on the rumour whilst DT , which owns another smaller rival Ben, also refused to be drawn on the issue.
