Bahrain to have a liberal telcoms market

16 Dec 2002

The Arab Advisors Group (AAG), a research company for the middle east telecoms market, has announced that Bahrain’s communications market will be fully liberalised following the establishment of an independent regulator before 2004. The Telecommunications Regulatory Bureau will be responsible for awarding licences and overseeing relations between operators and agents. The announcement was part of a report by the AAG that also predicted Bahrain’s GSM subscriber base to reach 625,000 by 2006, a penetration rate of 77%.
